There's beauty in art, music and chemistry.  Synchronized to the sounds of a rock band, the chemistry of the fireworks display above reveals a dazzling array of spectacular colors.   To a casual observer this is just  beautiful (if not noisy).   To a trained chemist, however, the colors are characteristics of specific chemical reactions, the components of which can be identified with an analytical spectroscopic instrument.   Much can be told about what the original components of the reaction were by the spectroscopic signature.   The maker of the firework can formulate the product for the colors he wishes based on this knowledge, or that provided by a highly experienced pyrotechnic artist.
